Help with laggy internet!
Hello,
Currently my internet is being very laggy (200-300ms delay) during peek hours (starts around 7:30pm and goes on until ~11:00pm). I am an avid WC3/GW/CS player, and although the lag does not affect WC3 & GW play too much, in CS it makes the game unplayable. I took a screenshot at 8:30pm of tracert of how bad this problem is:
I also recently e-mailed my internet service provider (Patriot Media) and here is what they responded
"Unfortunately, the spike you are witnessing is outside of Patriot's
system. As the data shows, the lag begins with hop 5, which is beyond
our network. It is likely that the hours during which you experience
the
spike is a peak time for the servers your game or activity is passing
through. This type of behavior often occurs in gaming scenarios.
I recommend that the next time this lag manifests, you call our
customer
service hotline at 1-***-***-****. A representative can verify your
service level in real time. Speed issues are impacted by myriad factors
including, to name a few, overall internet traffic and, particularly,
the load bearing capability of non-Patriot systems with which you
interact. Please keep these facts in mind when calling to verify your
service status."
I then contacted the phone number when the lag started again, and aside from the lady being a complete ***, she said its either too many programs on my computer slowing it down or its the extra routers. For the too many unneeded programs.. I have an insane computer and even ran spybot and other anti-spyware programs to get all that nasty spyware away. And about the router slowing it down... I unhooked the router and am currently using the modem directly into my computer w/o any routers connected... and... same exact problem. So the solutions she said do not help. Typical ISP service.
Anyways, I come to you guys to help me solve this problem. I don't know what else I could do to fix the problem with my current ISP. I was looking into other ISPS and have been looking at Comcast & Verizon DSL (I live in Princeton 08540 btw, not sure if I can get comcast here yet).
Anyways guys, lots of love to whoever can assist me with this problem! Thanks so much
btw: I just took a screenshot of the tracert now at 1:00am (obviously not peek hours):
(small img, but all between 1-50ms
